Friday is Mission Awareness Dress Down Day to benefit Shoes that Fit.

In Math we begin Chapter 3 – Subtraction. In Religion we are discussing Mary and the Saints in preparation for all Saints Day. In Science we are looking at pumpkins and apples and how they grow.
We will have our Halloween Party on Friday from 12 – 1pm. Let me know if you are interested in helping during that time.

It is Red Ribbon Week! Don’t forget to dress the theme for each day:
Monday: Wear red day!! Please wear your favorite red shirt/sweatshirt with jeans.
Tuesday: Dress up day!!
Wednesday: Groovy Day!! Dig out your old clothes from the 60’s and 70’s. Jeans are ok…no wigs or hats!
Conferences are Tuesday and Thursday. No School for students Thursday and Friday.
Wednesday, October 22nd will be pumpkin math day. Please have your child bring a pumpkin to school on Wednesday to be used for Halloween fun and math activities. The pumpkin should be a size that your child can easily carry to school themselves in their backpack.
For a special snack that day we will be making witch’s brew (snack mix) along with our pumpkin activities. To make witch’s brew we need the following items:
Parents of:
A.J, Andrea, and Rita please send in 1 small bag of gummy worms
Ben and Carrie – pretzel sticks (grab bag size)
Hugh and Jake – crunchy cheetos (grab bag size)
Jocelyn and Joshua – bag of M&M’s
Maddy and Nolan – candy corn
Norah and Patrick – Juice boxes or pouches
Additionally, we could use some classroom help on this fun day. Please let me know if you are available to come to class from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

In religion we will review and assess Unit 1 on Creation. We will then begin our exploration of Mary and other Saints as we prepare for All Saints Day.
In math we begin Chapter 5 – addition. We will also learn about Christopher Columbus in social studies this week.
Next week is very busy and short! It is Red Ribbon Week. Information regarding special activities for next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday was in the Wednesday packets.
No school for students next Thursday the 22nd and Friday the 23rd.
Don’t forget parent teacher conferences are next Tuesday, October 20th & next Thursday, October 22nd.

It’s Fire Safety Week! We will be discussing fire safety this week in science and the Urbandale Fire Fighters will visit our school on Friday.

We will take a “book test” this week which will assess the language arts skills from the last 5 weeks. Next week we begin Book 2 in language arts.
In math we will finish and assess Chapter 2 – addition strategies.
In religion we will begin a chapter on caring for creation and will also discuss St. Francis the patron saint of those who care for creation whose feast day is on October 4.
In science we are discussing Autumn. We are learning the characteristics of fall and doing fall activities.
Book It! reading records will go home on October 1st. Color a square for every night of reading to earn a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.

Friday is our field trip to the pond at Jester Park (hopefully). We will be watching the weather carefully and may have to cancel due to rain. I’ll keep you posted.
In Language Arts we begin our final story in Book 1. There are no spelling words this week due to the field trip on Friday.
