We will continue with end of the year testing this week.
Students will be “moving out” all week long. I will try to send home books and supplies in little bits this week to not overstuff their back packs on the final day. Thursday we will clean and wash our desks. If you have a small bucket or pail that can hold water please send it with your child on Thursday. Thank you!
Summer Skills: students will be bringing home their mini book bags and remaining math pages that can be used at home this summer. Also be sure to check out the school’s student websites for fun games in reading and math to help keep skills fresh. All the students know how to maneuver arournd the school website.
Also don’t forget about spellingcity.com. Under resources they have lists available for sight words and word families.
This class has been a blessing to work with. Thank you for all the support you have given me and your student throughout the school year. Have a fun and safe summer!!!

Monday is Field Day. Students may dress down on Monday for field day activities.
Friday is Dress Down Day. Students may dress down on Friday. Funds will go toward the new playground.
There is no language arts story this week and no spelling list.
We will be finishing up our unit on Moses this week. We’ve discussed how Moses was set a drift in the Nile river, talked to God in a burning bush, brought the 10 plagues to Egypt, and parted the Red Sea. This week we will discuss wandering in the desert, the 10 commandments, and the Ark of the Covenant. In our religion books we are also working on chapter 4 – The Trinity.
In science we continue to observe our seeds growing in the soils from around the United States. We are also discussing how plants and animals need one another.
In math we are wrapping up addition to 12 and moving into subtraction strategies to 12.
No school Monday due to Memorial Day Holiday.
The last day of school is Thursday, June 2nd. This is a noon dismissal.

Friday is Field Day (weather permitting)
Students may dress down on Friday for field day relays at Murphy Park in the morning and outside activities back at school in the afternoon.
Everyone is invited to the 1st grade mass on Wed. May 18th at 8:15 a.m.
This will be the last spelling test for this school year. Again we will review the last set of rainbow words. The students are only responsible for the words they missed for Friday’s test.
In religion this week we will begin Chapter 20 – Life with God, discussing heaven. We also begin a unit on Moses and will do activities all week long to highlight his life.
In science we will plant seeds this week and do observations over the next 2 weeks of their growth. We will also begin discussing animals and the different animal classifications – mammal, reptile, amphibian, bird, fish, and insects.
Wednesday is an early 1pm dismissal.
Wear Orange on Wednesday for Character Counts pillar – Fairness.
This week we will take the Book Test on our final Language Arts book. This will review all the skills learned the last few weeks. We also did a review spelling test of rainbow words. Your student will only be responsible for the words missed.
In religion we continue to work on Chapter 18- Baptism. We will also begin practicing our mass for Wednesday, May 18th. Everyone is invited to attend.
In science we continue to take a look at plants. This week we will discuss seeds and what a plant needs to grow as we begin preparations for planting seeds in our soils from around the country.
In math we will wrap up and assess the Money chapter this week while others work on double digit addition and subtraction.
This is the last week for Book Club. All book reports must be turned in on Friday.

In science we begin a new life science unit on Plants and Animals. We will begin with comparing living and nonliving things, and then learn about what plants and animals need, animal habitats, and plant and animal relationships.
In religion we will learn about Sacraments and Baptism. Fr. Joe will be giving us a tour of the Baptismal Font and the Baptism items in the church.
